Winter Storm Warning
Issued by the National Weather Service at 12:06 PM PST on February 9, 2010

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 PM PST
Wednesday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 PM PST
Wednesday.

* Timing: moderate to heavy snowfall is expected to develop today
and continue through tonight. Wrap around moisture will likely
bring additional showers on Wednesday... mainly on north facing
slopes. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms this afternoon
and tonight.

* Main impact: moderate to heavy snow accumulations generally
between 6 and 12 inches are expected over much of the mountains.
Local amounts up to 16 inches will be possible across the higher
elevations of the san Gabriels. Snow levels will start out
between 4500 and 5000 feet today... then will lower to between
3000 and 4000 feet tonight. There is a chance that snow could
fall as low as 2500 feet late tonight and early Wednesday.

* Other impacts: with the low snow levels... the Interstate 5
corridor near the Grapevine and the Highway 14 corridor through
Soledad Canyon will likely be impacted. In addition... southwest
winds between 15 and 25 mph with local gusts to 35 mph are also
expected to affect the area today. The winds will shift to the
north by late tonight. The combination of moderate to heavy snow
and gusty winds could create blowing snow with reduced
visibilities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and gusty winds means
severe winter weather conditions are expected. Significant
amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous.
Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra
flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency.

Flash Flood Watch
Issued by the National Weather Service at 6:54 PM PST on February 9, 2010

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the recent burn areas
until 3 am PST Wednesday...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* the recent burn areas in Los Angeles County. This includes the
station... Morris... and Santa Anita burn areas.

* Until 3 am PST Wednesday.

* Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms will continue
tonight. There is still the potential for brief heavy
downpours... with local rainfall rates in excess of .50 inches
per hour. These rates are in excess of thresholds determined by
the USGS to be sufficient to cause flash flooding and debris
flows in and below the recent burn areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
